I chose this tale as I enjoyed it the most, I also thought that there was a lot to work with and I enjoyed the colours shown in the story !

As this tale is a folktale there are multiple endings I researched a couple of retellings. I also want to take inspiration from the opera of the white snake, this opera has a lot of story differences from the tales that i’ve seen, there is a bit more characterization to xu xian and Bai suzhen, Bai suzhen seems to be a bit shy in this, asking Xing Qing to speak to Xian for her or Xing Qing is her hand maiden in the opera.

Though I very much like the traditional ties / themes in the story, I’d like to create a re-vamp / rewrite of this story. Taking the form of a romantic drama based on the original tale.

I’ve used this story as a basis to learn how to make 2D puppet rigs and continue developing my 2D frame by frame animation! I also want to explore new styles and improve in concept design!
